Getting Your Texas License to Carry Is Simple

Earning your Texas License to Carry doesn’t have to be complicated. The process is straightforward and designed to make sure you understand the law and can safely handle a handgun.

 Here’s how it works:

1. Complete the online LTC course
Start with a Texas-approved online course that covers firearm safety, Texas carry laws, and use of force. You can complete this portion at your own pace from anywhere.

2. Qualify in person with a certified instructor
After the online course, you’ll complete a short, in-person shooting qualification. This confirms safe handling and basic marksmanship. It’s not a tactical test and it’s designed for everyday citizens.

3. Submit your application to DPS
Once training is complete, apply through the Texas Department of Public Safety. You’ll upload your course certificate, complete fingerprinting, and submit your application.

4. Receive your Texas LTC
After DPS review and approval, your License to Carry is mailed directly to you, allowing you to legally carry and enjoy the benefits that come with an LTC.

Why get an LTC?
Even with permitless carry, an LTC provides added legal protection, reciprocity in other states, and smoother firearm purchases.

If you’re ready to start, we’ll guide you through each step and make the process simple from day one.
